What is branding?
Branding is the process of building, designing, and managing a brand's identity and perception in the minds of consumers. Branding is the work of deciding what that idea should be and building the tools so it's repeated in the same way everywhere: the name, the visual identity, the tone of voice and every format you appear in.
A logo is one piece of that system. With a logo on its own, you're missing the colours, the typefaces and the rules that make your brand look the same on an ordinary Tuesday as it does on launch day. You need a complete brand to grow.

A team of researchers at Carleton University showed people web pages for 50 milliseconds and asked them to rate them. The scores matched those given after looking ten times longer. Before reading a single word, people have already decided whether what they see looks cared for.
Trust matters almost as much as price
In an Edelman survey of 16,000 people across eight countries, 81% said being able to trust a brand is a deciding factor when buying, almost on a par with quality (85%) and price (84%). That trust doesn't come from a pretty logo: it comes from a brand that looks and sounds the same at every touchpoint.
People prefer what they already know
According to Nielsen, in a survey of more than 29,000 people in 58 countries, 60% prefer to buy new products from brands they already know. Being recognisable is what gets you chosen when you launch something new or open another location.
Consistency shows in the business
Lucidpress, now Marq, asked more than 400 brand managers how much they'd grow if their brand were always applied consistently. They estimated between 10% and 20%. It's an estimate, not a measurement, but the same study gives the figure that explains it: 85% of companies have brand guidelines and only 30% actually follow them.

I'm Itziar Villar, founder and creative director of By Grá Design.

I've spent more than five years creating brands for hospitality, real estate, beauty, food and personal brands. What is a branding studio and how is it different from a graphic designer?
Graphic design solves individual pieces. Branding first decides what your business needs to convey, and then designs every piece as a system.
Can i hire you to start my brand from scratch or do i need some previous work?
Yes. If you don't have a name yet, we start there, like we did with Los Chapines and Bünik Home. (And three more are currently being registered in Spain and the UAE.)
I have some ideas but i need clarity
It is a great starting point. Sorting out what is in your head is the first part of the job. People often tell us that we have given shape and clarity to their idea.

How long does it take to create my brand?
Branding starts at €1,500. Combined branding and web development projects start at €3,500. The final price depends on the scope: how many additional brand formats you need, whether it includes stationery, if the website is a one-page or multi-page site, and if it requires custom features.
